Most people know about the US Virgins Islands as a beautiful tropical paradise with amazing beaches, crystal-clear blue waters, and warm tropical breezes. What many don’t know is that the Island has a growing population of abandoned (and feral) dogs and cats— and other animals, too.
The Humane Society of St. Thomas (HSST) works incredibly hard to care for the hundreds of animals that come through its doors. But it’s an uphill battle. The animals it finds are usually undernourished, under-socialized, and require significant medical care.
Unfortunately, the HSST doesn’t have the resources to take care of all the animals it finds every single day. It truly needs our help, so we have stepped up so that proceeds from much of our sales will go to help support their programs.
The Humane Society of St. Thomas is a 501c3 non-profit and the only animal shelter serving the animals of St. Thomas, USVI.
The shelter was established in 1957 and is committed to fighting animal cruelty, and neglect. The incredible staff and volunteers work tirelessly to create an environment of respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals throughout the territory.
The shelter was built to hold 40 dogs and 70 cats, but most days the shelter has 100+ dogs and 100+ cats with animals arriving or left at the gate every day. The shelter tries to accommodate the animals that are brought in, but they can only do so much, and hard decisions sometimes need to be made.

Help give a dog or cat the opportunity to find a loving home in the States with the Pets with Wings program. A dog or cat animal is transported stateside in the cabin with a ticketed passenger (multiple animals can travel with a family!). Anyone traveling to one of the Pets with Wings partner cities – can accompany an animal there as a “flight volunteer.”
Don’t worry, the process to chaperone a pet is s entirely stress-free for the traveler! The wonderful staff and volunteers with Pets with Wings will do all the necessary travel paperwork and pay the flight fee (Travels can donate the travel fee if able). The passenger accompanies the animal through customs and TSA and is given a pet travel kit with necessary information and supplies for the pet. At the end of the flight, a representative from the partner animal rescue will meet the flight volunteer to take hold of the pet.
